In the fall, the Northern VA section members choose their officers and board members for the next year. The process begins as early as June with the formation of a nomination committee, which solicits nominations for each open elected position. Section members may nominate themselves or others, but nominees must belong to the section and have undergraduate degree (though not necessarily in electrical engineering).

The nominations committee screens nominees and chooses two candidates for each open position. The ballot is finalized by October, and the secret vote is announced and conducted online. At the end the winners by majority are notified before the they are announced in December, in time to plan a transition with existing officers in December. The MGA rules detail the process for assigning interim officers mid-year. The recommended schedule for the South Area is:

  • 1 June 2015: Initiate Election Process¬† (Nominating¬† Committee already set up)
  • 30 June 2015: Call for Nominations Complete
  • 31 July 2015: Slate of candidates Ratified
  • 15 August 2015: Communicate slate of candidates and start the petition process
  • 15 Sept 2015: Election Slate Complete (all data verified)
  • 30 Sept 2015: Prepare Ballot
  • 15 Oct 2015: Run Election
  • 30 Oct 2015: Election Completed
  • 01 Nov 2015 – 10 Nov 2015 Confirm Election Results
  • 10 Nov 2015: Communicate Election Results
  • 15 Nov – 31 Dec 2015: On-boarding of new officers and directors
