Chapters & Affinity Groups
If you have not added an IEEE Technical Society to your membership, you really are missing most of what IEEE has to offer you.
The Washington Section has 3187 members as of Feb 8 2023.
The technical interests of the members of our Section are truly diverse: our members belong to 38 of the 39 IEEE Technical Societies, and most of these 38 Societies have active local Chapters.
1725 Washington Section members (54% of our total membership) belong to IEEE Technical Societies.
1195 Washington Section members belong to one IEEE Technical Society.
530 Washington Section members belong to two or more IEEE Technical Societies.
But 1462 Washington Section members have not yet added an IEEE Technical Society to their IEEE membership.
The additional cost for Society membership is quite small and the unique opportunities that a Society membership offers you for networking, education, and skill-enhancement through local meetings and lectures are unrivaled. The National Capital Area of IEEE –the Washington and Northern VA Sections — are especially rich in these opportunities.
If you are one of the ~46% of the Washington Section’s members that have not yet added a Technical Society to your IEEE membership, please consider doing so.
Technical society or council members within a geographic area may form a local chapter, which is led by the chapter chair and supported by the geographical unit (typically the section). While leadership roles and meeting announcements go only to society members, their meetings and presentations are usually open to everyone including non-IEEE members. Announcements in the calendar will specify when a meeting is closed.
The following is a list of all chapters spanning the Washington Section. Where chapters span two or more sections the “lead” section (responsible for reporting chapter activity) is listed first. Some chapters exist separately in both Washington and Northern VA, but only the Washington chapter is listed below.
