Chapter Officers

Chapters have elected officers just like sections, but their scope is limited to chapter business.  Chairs and (in their absence) vice chairs request budget from EXCOM at the beginning of the year and preside over meetings.  Treasurers take care of expenses like meeting room costs or, and secretaries send announcement emails and keep meeting minutes.  Officers are expected to hold and file L31 reports for at least two technical meetings per year in order to qualify for a small rebate from IEEE.

In the course of organizing local technical presentations, chapter officers often develop awareness of and relationships with local subject matter experts.  Chapters are also often involved when the associated technical society holds events in their territory, so they may also work with society leaders and experts through support of events and conferences in their region.  It’s also a great way to prepare for section leadership roles.
