IEEE Northern Virginia (NoVA) Section Newsletter – November 2019
Once again, I have received inquiries from external organizations who are asking for volunteers. It is rewarding to know that people think about the IEEE when seeking individuals with technical expertise.
Several schools are looking for volunteers to help with science fair judging.
The science fair at Lee High School at 6540 Franconia Rd Springfield, VA 22150 is scheduled for December 11th. A Google forms link for volunteers to complete can be found at https://forms.gle/qgbhGKTB8W7JDEMB8.
Judges are also being recruited for the science fair at Hayfield Secondary school, which is located at 7630 Telegraph Rd. Alexandria, VA. 22315. The Hayfield science fair judging will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1st, from 8:30 AM until about noon. Please go to https://forms.gle/i51fHwoa1gLtJgir5 and fill out the information to volunteer.
As one of the requesters said, having an outside judge (not their teacher) makes all the difference.
Upcoming Events
The best way to stay informed of local activities is to visit the NoVA website’s pages https://r2.ieee.org/nova/events/ that lets you search for events of interest, or https://r2.ieee.org/nova/calendar/ that provides a list of the next 2 months’ events.
Note that if you have trouble getting to events that interest you (and who doesn’t have trouble commuting in the DC area!), many events are broadcasted via WebEx and you can attend virtually. You must register and under Special Instructions request WebEx login information.
The events currently scheduled for next few months include:
