Standardization of Contactless Fingerprint Capture

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/409045

Contactless acquisition of fingerprints presents a fundamental departure from legacy capture technologies. The friction ridge surface that comprises a fingerprint is a three-dimensional topography superimposed upon a three-dimensional curved surface of a finger presenting many challenges in both acquisition as well as interoperability with legacy contact collected imagery. In this presentation we will discuss NIST’s work in the area of standardizing this nascent technology, and the challenges in doing so.
