STEM Pre-University Education
We provide money and volunteers to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education among elementary, middle, and high school students in our vicinity. Some efforts are opportunistic – at an ADCOM meeting someone asks for volunteers or raises a motion to purchase educational kits for a local library. Some like providing special awards as regional science fairs have been held for decades, while others like camp invention are just beginning.
Because there are so many local schools in our area, we try to draw volunteers for events from members who live nearby. Rather than maintain a list of people who are willing we send email to members who live near the event. If you’re interested in volunteering, login to your IEEE account and verify your email address is correct and that you allow communication from your local section.
The section can request matching funds from the Professional Activities Committee for Engineers (PACE), which would allow us to do more. Contact us if you’d like to start a club at a local high school.
