Transistorized! Traces the discovery, invention and impact of the transistor, perhaps the most important invention of the 20th century. Implications on Nanotechnology will be discussed. These transistors are made of graphene, a material that conducts electricity much faster than most. It is a flat sheet of carbon atoms only one atom thick. It has great potential as a new (nano) electronic material thanks to the high mobility of its electronsthe Art. Hosted by Ira Flatow, the documentary recounts how American life was utterly transformed by the transistor, and how its basic principles have flowered into technologies that will dominate the next century. The Cleveland Open Source Modular Implant Innovators Community (COSMIIC)
This talk will introduce the Cleveland Open Source Modular Implant Innovators Community (COSMIIC) – see cosmiic.org. The overall goal of COSMIIC is to establish an open source, modular network of active implantable devices for use in pre-clinical and early feasibility human research, and to provide ongoing support for this technology through a vibrant, sustainable community of users. The concept is based on our established platform ecosystem, the Networked Neuroprosthesis (NNP), which provides a solid technological platform with an established regulatory status for human use. The COSMIIC concept is being established through major funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stimulating Peripheral Activity to Relieve Conditions (SPARC) Program. The project includes a broad investigative team in Cleveland at CWRU, MHS, VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, and the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine; as well as investigators at the University of Michigan and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Senior Membership Workshop
The Philadelphia Section wants to increase the number of IEEE Senior Members in our section. We are setting up a workshop for the purpose of signing up new Senior Members. We gain, and you gain by advancing. What does it mean to be a Senior Member of the IEEE? The Senior Member grade is a way for IEEE members to receive recognition for their professional experience and significant performance in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and related fields, including: Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, Law, and Policy. We want to bring attention to IEEE Women in Engineering for Senior Membership also. Many of our women in technology in the Philadelphia Section need to take advantage of this next level. If you meet the experience requirements, come to the workshop. If you have at least 10 years of relevant industry experience or educational accomplishments in IEEE designated areas, you can be eligible for an upgrade to Senior Member grade. If needed, we will help with the references, and the rest of the paperwork. Most of the Executive Committee, who are Senior Members or Fellows will be there and can serve as reference persons. We need also volunteers from the ranks of Senior Members and Fellows to be mentors. Address your questions to: [email protected]. Senior Member advancement provides IEEE members with significant and distinct benefits: 1. Recognition: The professional recognition of your peers for technical and professional excellence. 2. Senior Member Plaque: Since January 1999, all newly elevated Senior Members have received an engraved Senior Member plaque to be proudly displayed for colleagues, clients and employers to see. The plaque, in an attractive fine wood with bronze engraving, is sent within six to eight weeks after elevation. 3. David holds BA and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan. Dr Victor Lawrence, a National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) Inductee is a leading example of this dedication. Throughout his career at AT&T Bell Labs, Dr Lawrence has advanced signal processing in communications. His work has improved transmission for the modern internet and has made high-speed connections more available. Abstract: In this talk, we will explore the fascinating domain of human voice profiling, a field at the confluence of voice forensics and artificial intelligence (AI) that I have been developing since 2014. The human voice serves as a unique and dynamic biometric signature, rich in personal information and responsive to a variety of influencing factors. This presentation will chart the evolution of voice profiling techniques—from traditional signal processing to advanced AI-driven methods—highlighting the key methodologies used to delve deeper and deeper into the human persona through voice. These methodologies essentially emerge by connecting the dots between a wide range of areas—from physics and biomechanics to machine learning and AI, to cytogenetics and genomics. As we navigate through the complexities and mysteries of the human voice, as a biometric identifier and a medium to infer the speaker's state, we uncover its profound implications for future human-machine interactions. As the world progresses towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) — we also speak of its physical embodiments. We will discuss why the science of human profiling is expected to play a pivotal role in embodied AGI systems of the future. One of the greatest inventors of the late 19th century, Alexander Graham Bell is probably most famous for the invention of the telephone and the ‘Bell Telephone Company’. Throughout his life, he sought to foster the advancement of scientific knowledge with his utmost dedication and sincere efforts. His career only began in earnest after his family moved from London, England to Ontario, Canada in an attempt to improve his health. He started as an elocution teacher for the deaf people where he worked tirelessly to spread an early form of sign language across America. He displayed his innovative talent with his invention of various sound recording and transmission devices. His greatest achievement remains the invention of the telephone that has changed and continues to change the way people communicate around the world. He was a pioneer, who gifted mankind with one of the most astonishing and trailblazing discoveries in human history, the telephone. AFTER the documentary - we can have a brief discussion session.
