A Pedestrian’s Approach in Making Timely Critical Decisions with an Incomplete Information Set
A Pedestrian’s Approach in Making Timely Critical Decisions with an Incomplete Information Set When a missile is headed in a protected area, decisions must be made quickly. Engage now with estimates of (warhead, debris, and decoy) being low from the missile seeker and ground radar or wait to increase the decision estimates at a cost of not having enough time to reengage. The goal of this meeting is to produce a simple mathematical approach that can address this problem. Discussion Topics: Complete and Incomplete Information Set, Dempster-Shafer Mathematical theory representing of Information, Pignistic Probability Mappings, Probability Information Content (PIC) Speaker(s): John Sudano, PhD, Agenda: WEBINAR: 7:00 - 8:00 P.M. Student “So You Think You Can Network” Virtual Speed Networking event 10/18/23: Event Canceled!!
Lehigh Valley IEEE Women in Engineering is hosting a virtual speed networking event for students at 6:30pm on Wednesday October 18th. Students will have the opportunity to present their “elevator pitch” to a number of Lehigh Valley professionals acting as networking coaches. The event will use Zoom breakout rooms to rotate the students through several coaches over the course of the event. The event offers a safe space for students to hone their interviewing skills while expanding their professional network. To participate, each student must be ready with a 3 minute “elevator pitch” to introduce themselves to each networking coach, explain who they are, what they are interested in, and what they are looking for. Each coach will provide feedback and help to refine the student’s pitch. Please note: spaces are limited, so we kindly request that you register only if you are committed to attending. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to boost your networking skills! Note also that students must be 18 or older to participate. Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/377135

AI-ASSISTED AND AI-BASED IMAGE/VIDEO PROCESSORS AND CODEC
AI has been used almost everywhere. Video analytics is the most commonly used AI. In the era of Internet of Video Things (IoVT), many cameras collect a massive amount of visual data to be analyzed by AI. While there are still challenges in the algorithms, especially after the systems are deployed, e.g., accuracy, energy efficiency, processing speed, we can further use AI to design efficient IoVT systems at the development time. This talk will discuss the following two topics: - Deployment-time AI for Image/Video Processors and Codec: Here, AI is utilized to perform specific system functions, such as video analysis and object detection/recognition, after the hardware system has been designed. - Development-time AI for Image/Video Processors and Codec: In this context, AI is employed to enhance the design. For example, EDA tools and compilers use AI to generate better designs. Given the numerous design trade-offs in image/video processing and compression, incorporating AI during the development phase (rather than relying solely on human-crafted heuristics) can result in more effective hardware system designs. IEEE-USA Talking Tech Webinar: Megatrends
IEEE-USA Talking Tech Webinar: Megatrends
External factors unrelated to technology that include global pandemics and wars have influenced the development and applications of technology. As a result, the world has transformed itself and it continues to evolve and reinvent itself through technology. Technology is a key enabler of global transformation driven by comprehensive developments, often called “Megatrends.” Megatrends coalesce around multiple interacting or mutually dependent developments, last for a long time, and have broad impacts not just to technology, but to business, society and the environment. Simply put, they impact all of humanity. In this talk we present predictions of individual technology developments as well as megatrends. The emerging roles of AI on the battlefield: trends and rationales
The emerging roles of AI on the battlefield: trends and rationales
Dr. Kott will discuss two major roles of AI, how they are evolving and what drives that inevitable evolution. The first role is the enabler of lethal (or indirectly lethal) autonomy, the growing reality of the modern battlefield. The second role is the enabler of the new generation of battle command. These roles will (and already begin) grow more profound and dominant. he will explore the reasons of why these trends are unavoidable regardless of policy debates. Historical illustrations and lessons of recent and ongoing conflicts will help the discussion. Cybersecurity Education for Engineers
Cybersecurity Education for Engineers
There is an ever-increasing need for cybersecurity education in the age of Internet of Things (IoT) and cyber-physical systems (CPS). Technologies of IoT and CPS are transforming engineering systems and critical infrastructure, such as energy grid, healthcare, and manufacturing, enabling connectivity and autonomous operations. Along with the enormous benefits of these disruptive technologies, there are alarming cybersecurity concerns. The vulnerabilities to cyberattacks and their negative impacts are becoming far greater and can cause devastating damage to physical assets, health as well as public safety concerns. Cybersecurity education is now needed for anyone working with technology, especially those incorporated in critical infrastructure. Hence, there is a growing need for cybersecurity education accessible to a broader audience of engineering students. In this talk, I will highlight the impacts of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence on cybersecurity. Then, I will present efforts aiming at filling the gap in cybersecurity education giving an example of cybersecurity course structure and certification accessible to students in different engineering majors. Sample interdisciplinary modules combining artificial intelligence and cybersecurity will be discussed.
