IEEE Authorship and Open Access Symposium: Tips and Best Practices to Get Published

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/371453

You are cordially invited to attend a free live webinar session, which will provide authors with best practices in preparing a manuscript, navigating the journal submission process, and important tips about how to get published. It will also review the opportunities authors and academic institutions have to enhance the visibility and impact of their research by publishing in the many open access options available from IEEE. This event is organized by the IEEE Xplore Team and is included here to publicize to the Northern Virginia Section Members. This webinar will include the perspective of Sergio Benedetto, Emeritus Professor of Politecnico di Torino, Italy and current IEEE Vice President of Publication Services and Products. Over the course of his career, Professor Benedetto has authored or co-authored 5 books and over 250 papers which have received more than 20,000 citations. Given his vast editorial, authoring, and IEEE leadership experience, Professor Benedetto will provide critical insights on IEEE’s peer review and submission processes and tips on what editors look for in submissions. Other presenters from IEEE will also cover topics such as open access programs for institutions, research strategies using the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, author tools, and other important resources for authors. Additional Topics Include: - How to increase the visibility and impact of your research - Tips and best practices to improve your chances of getting published - What editors and reviewers look for in submissions - Common reasons why papers are rejected - Selecting the right publication for your research submission - Warning signs to look for to avoid predatory journals - Reasons to consider open access journals for your submissions - Open access options available from IEEE for authors and institutions - Research strategies using the IEEE Xplore Digital Library - Authorship tools available for promoting open science - Live Q&A: Our experts answer your questions live! Resilience of Networked Systems under Connectivity-Based and Load-Based Failures

Bldg: WVU Tech Library,, 512 South Kanawha Street , Beckley, West Virginia, United States, 25801

Technical Presentation: Resilience refers to the ability of a system to cope with fatal threats and bounce back (fully or partially) from high-impact disruptions. From economic systems and organizations to various engineering systems, many sectors of modern society consider resilience as an essential requirement and/or a major design objective. Networks have been widely used as a model of numerous complex systems such as power grids, financial transaction networks, communication networks such as the Internet, command and control systems, etc. Therefore, a better understanding of the resilience of networks will be fundamental to the improved designs and/or smoother operations of a wide range of real-world systems from critical infrastructure to humanitarian aid. Dr. Al Aqqad will present a general modeling and simulation framework that he developed to quantitatively evaluate the resilience of networked systems under two types of failures: connectivity- and load-based. Co-sponsored by: STB03231 - West Virginia Inst Of Tech Speaker(s): , Dr. Waseem Al Aqqad Bldg: WVU Tech Library,, 512 South Kanawha Street , Beckley, West Virginia, United States, 25801

Dr. Michael Fritze will give his independent perspectives on what the CHIPS ((Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors) Program means for the US particularly for the microelectronics community. He will cover the motivations behind this historic semiconductor investment and articulate the planned support level for each particular area. This includes the Department of Commerce Incentives and R&D efforts and the Department of Defense Microelectronics Commons. Particular attention will be paid to the R&D parts of this legislation. He will review the goals of this legislation in strengthening the US domestic microelectronics supply chain and R&D infrastructure. Dr. Fritze will also discuss some of the key challenges of this major USG investment.
