The Future of Cybersecurity is Civilian?

Merritt directs Cyber Strategy at the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Cybersecurity & Communications. She is a cybersecurity expert with experience in all three branches of government, and has also worked with early-stage technology companies to provide business, law, and technology strategy.

 Merritt speaks regularly on emerging areas including the future of the Internet, current cybersecurity issues (cloud, mobile, Internet of things and industrial control systems), corporate interactions with government cyber, women in tech, entrepreneurism and innovation. Her insights on business strategy and tech have been published in Forbes, The Baltimore Sun, Talking Points Memo and ThinkProgress. Her academic work has been published by journals of Georgetown, Santa Clara, and the University of Virginia.

 

Merritt is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard College. She is admitted to

the Bars of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the United States Supreme Court. Based in Washington, DC, she is a Fellow at the EastWest Institute, an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland, and an amateur boxer.
