About Susquehanna

Welcome to the

Susquehanna Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

The Susquehanna Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) was established on June 18, 1953 and represents an area of Pennsylvania that includes Harrisburg, Lancaster, York and Carlisle.

The Section’s goals are to provide networking opportunities among its members and student members from the numerous local engineering schools; standards of professional conduct; activities to introduce local high school students to fields of engineering and computer science; continuing post graduate education and professional development.

The Section hosts informative dinner/meetings on the second Tuesday of each month covering a wide arrange of engineering disciplines as well as tours of local research, engineering and manufacturing facilities.  These dinner/meetings are also open to the non-section members and general public as well.

The Section supports 2 Chapters of the IEEE Consumer Electronics Society and Nanotechnology Society.  These Chapters also each host at least two major events a year specializing in their specific technologies.

Finally, the Section provides both volunteers and financial support to educational engineering projects which promote science awareness to local high school, college and university students.  These projects include:

  • Central Pennsylvania Engineering Week Council, which represents 6 engineering disciplines which includes chemical, civil, highway, electrical, packaging and mechanical. For one weekend in February the Council provides exhibits and demonstrations at the Whitaker Center for children in the grades 9 – 12.
  • Robotics Competition, which is held in November. Teams from local high schools design and build robots from suite of standards parts.
  • MATHCOUNTS Competition Series: The section is an ongoing supporter of this national program that provides students in grades 6-8 the opportunity to compete in live, in-person math contests against and along side their peers simultaneously across the country.
  • Central Pennsylvania Signal Integrity Symposium, which is held in April. This is a 1 day symposium which consists of presentations from leading SI experts and challenging workshops.
