Pulsed power is the science and technology of accumulating electrical energy over a relatively long period of time and releasing it almost instantaneous, thus amplifying in the instantaneous power by millions to billions of times. Applications include food processing, inertial confinement fusion, radiation effects, fundamental physics, particle accelerators, directed energy systems, medical devices, and more much. Similarities and differences between pulsed power and traditional power systems (the electric utility grid) will be highlighted. The talk will include topics from the following areas and present the history of the field from early high voltage radar technology to analyzing modern pulsed power sources capable of instantaneous power in the 100s of TWs and currents in the 100s of MAs. If somebody pays you to create a graphic for them, of course they own the tangible product. But without a written transfer of copyright, did know that you'd still own that copyright? Except if you used an Artificial Intelligence tool to generate the image. Then it won't be copyrightable. Do you know when it's desirable to register your copyright with the federal government and how to do it online? In what situations can you incorporate into your artwork images from somebody else, even without their permission? What is “fair use” of copyrighted subject matter has been upended by recent court decisions. You used to have to hire a lawyer to start a lawsuit in federal court in order to enforce your copyright against an infringer. But for years you've also had the option of demanding that Internet platforms take down unauthorized copies of your work. And just recently, Congress created a "small claims" tribunal where you can pursue copyright infringers. There's a lot of controversy over the use of publicly accessible copyrighted images and text to "train" artificial intelligence models to generate new pictures and writings.
