Opportunities and Challenges in Power Flow Control in a Modern Grid (HYBRID)

Next Tier Connect @ Pittsburgh East, 4350 Northern Pike, Monroeville, Pennsylvania, United States, 15146, Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/424962

Electric power grid around the world is being modernized to integrate renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar in an unprecedented scale. This brings unforeseen challenges in integration of inertia-less and intermittent renewable energy sources with a legacy grid that was built with rotating machinery. An opportunity lies ahead to upgrade the power flow controllers from the traditional reactance regulator and phase angle regulator to a modern-day impedance regulator that is capable of regulating the line voltage and controlling the active and reactive power flows in the line independently. The presentation is designed to provide the basic principles of power flow control theory, an overview of the most commonly used power flow controllers, and future trends. The audience will hear from an expert who actually designed and commissioned a number of power electronics-based FACTS controllers since their inceptions in the 1990s. Speaker(s): Kallyan, Agenda: Social: 6:30 PM Presentation: 7 pm (eastern time zone). The meeting link will be emailed to on-line attendees on the day before the event. Unlocking the power of Data: Transform business with a cutting Edge Data Warehouse

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/427963

Abstract: Data Warehousing concepts and benefits Data warehousing is a foundational concept in the realm of data management, designed to centralize and integrate data from disparate sources within an organization. It serves as a consolidated repository where historical and current data can be stored, organized, and analyzed to support decision-making processes. Unlike operational databases optimized for transactional processing, data warehouses are optimized for querying and analysis, offering a structured and unified view of data across departments and systems. By structuring data into dimensional models like star schemas or snowflake schemas, data warehousing facilitates efficient querying and reporting, enabling stakeholders to gain valuable insights into business performance, trends, and customer behavior. This strategic use of data helps organizations improve operational efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive informed strategic initiatives based on a solid foundation of data-driven insights.
