SOCIETY CHAPTERS
AESS: Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society
Local Chair: Nicholas Kovach, nicholas.kovach@ieee.org
Local Co-Chair: Aaron Jones, aaronjones@raider-tech.com
The field of interest of AESS shall be the organization, systems engineering, design, development, integration, and operation of complex systems for space, air, ocean, or ground environments. These systems include but are not limited to navigation, avionics, mobile electric power and electronics, radar, sonar, telemetry, military, law-enforcement, automatic test, simulators, and command and control.
APS/MTT/GRS: Antennas & Propagation Society, Microwave Theory & Techniques Society, and Geoscience & Remote Sensing Society
Local Chair: Prof. Andrew J. Terzuoli, Jr. (Chair Emeritus) a.j.terzuoli@ieee.org
Local Co-Chair: Major Timothy Wolfe, Ph.D. (Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AFIT) tswolfe@ieee.org
This joint group hosts “inverse conferences” for students to present their ongoing research to the local tech community as non-experts. This is an opportunity, not a requirement or burden. The goal is to gain broad professional input and reaction to create better products and better formal academic and conference presentations. The suggested “inverse conference” outline is:
- Problem or challenge
- Past work uncovered
- Approach or methodology
- Results and conclusion
- Current understanding
- Future research objectives
- Request for help and call for input, wisdom, and insight.
This is an invitation students who wish to take advantage of this forum. Students can conduct an “inverse conference” at any location, date, and time. Students should send an email to tswolfe@ieee.org with an abstract and biography, along with desired scheduling parameters. An announcement will be made as information is available. Pass the word!
Computer Society
Local Chair: Tarek Taha, tarek.taha@udayton.edu
Local Co-Chair: VACANT
Engaging computer engineers, scientists, academia, and industry professionals from all areas of computing, the IEEE Computer Society (CS) sets the standard for the education and engagement that fuels continued global technological advancement. Through conferences, publications, and programs, and by bringing together computer science and engineering leaders at every phase of their career for dialogue, debate, and collaboration, IEEE CS empowers, shapes, and guides the future of not only its members, but the greater industry, enabling new opportunities to better serve our world.
PEAL: Power & Energy Society and Industry Applications Society and Power Electronics Society Joint Chapter Society
Local Chair: Kevin Yost, kevin.j.yost@ieee.org
Local Co-Chair: Dang Cao, dcao02@udayton.edu
PEAL was formed in 2012 combining talent from the Power and Energy Society (PES), Industry Applications Society (IAS), and the Power Electronics Society (PELS) into a joint IEEE chapter. The chapter is conveniently located in the heart of Ohio’s Aviation Frontier with easy access to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB), GE Electrical Power Integrated Systems Center (EPISCenter), University of Dayton, Wright State University, Cedarville University, and Miami University. Together, the chapter partners with local industries to provide tremendous knowledge and experience to tackle the industries toughest problems among an ever increasing demand for power. PEAL is the perfect place for technical scholars and professionals to grow knowledge and expertise in an effort to keep up with increasing demands in technology. - 4th IEEE Workshop on Interconnections of Renewables/Energy Storage to Electric Grids
Photonics Society
Local Chair: Preetpaul Devgan, preetpaul.devgan@us.af.mil
Local Co-Chair: Andrew Sarangan, asarangan1@udayton.edu
The IEEE Photonics Society forms the hub of a vibrant technical community of more than 100,000 professionals dedicated to transforming breakthroughs in quantum physics into the devices, systems and products to revolutionize our daily lives.
From ubiquitous and inexpensive global communications via fiber optics, to lasers for medical and other applications, to flat-screen displays, to photovoltaic devices for solar energy, to LEDs for energy-efficient illumination, there are myriad examples of the society’s impact on the world around us.
We organize, contribute to and participate in technical conferences, journals and other activities covering all aspects of photonics in order to share and disseminate our breakthroughs. We engage in photonics research, development, design and manufacturing, and are vital part of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
We provide our members with professional growth opportunities, publish journals, sponsor conferences and support local chapter and student activities around the world.
SPS/SMCS/EMBS: Signal Processing Society, Systems, Man & Cybernetics Society and Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society
Local Co-Chair: Steven Sur, steven.sur.01@gmail.com
Local Co-Chair: Amy Neishard Doll, aneidharddoll1@ieee.org
Signal processing is the enabling technology for the generation, transformation, extraction, and interpretation of information. It comprises the theory, algorithms with associated architectures and implementations, and applications related to processing information contained in many different formats broadly designated as signals. Signal processing uses mathematical, statistical, computational, heuristic, and/or linguistic representations, formalisms, modeling techniques and algorithms for generating, transforming, transmitting, and learning from signals.
AFFINITY GROUP CHAPTERS
Young Professionals & Women in Engineering (YP-WIE) Joint Chapter
Local Chair: Tara Carroll, Tara.Carroll@ieee.org
This Chapter was founded in 2015 to bring new and enhanced opportunities for networking, professional development, career enhancement and much more to these 2 critical groups within IEEE and the Dayton Section membership. Young Professionals (YP, formerly GOLD) are IEEE members within 15 years of their first technical degree. Women in Engineering (WIE) is an affinity group within IEEE that anyone can join (including men!) who are passionate about inspiring and empowering women as leaders in engineering and technology.
