The Basics and Applications of Light

What: In celebration of the International Year of Light pho2015, this two-part lecture series is open to all and will be presented without any need for previous knowledge or experience working with light. Attendance at the first lecture is not necessary to attend the second lecture.

When: Wednesday October 21 2015 from 6pm-8pm

Wednesday October 28, 2015 from 6 pm-8 pm.

 

Where: University of Dayton Research Institute River Campus (UDRI) River Campus, 1700 S. Patterson St., Building 1700, Room M2265 (Follow the signs)

Details: The following talks will be given along with hands-on demonstrations to allow the audience to interact with light in new ways.

Wednesday, Oct. 21 6-8pm

  • An Introduction to Light: From Fundamentals to Applications. Presented by Dr. Preetpaul Devgan, Air Force Research Laboratory.
  • Using Light to Power and Illuminate Our World. Presented by Dr. Andrew Sarangan, University of Dayton, Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Wednesday, Oct. 28 6-8 pm

  • Communicating at the Speed of Light: How Light Connects Us to the Rest of The World. Presented by Dr. Preetpaul Devgan, AFRL.
  • How Light and Color are Used for Imaging. Presented by Dr. Keigo Hirakawa, University of Dayton, Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Free pizza and beverages will be provided. Door prizes will be handed out to lucky attendees.
