Tiny Tapeout Workshop – Spring 2025
The IEEE Joint Columbus SSCS/CAS Chapter is excited to announce the continuation of our “Foundations of Mixed-Signal IC Design: A Practical Approach to Lab-to-Fab” workshop series in 2025. Thanks to the CAS Society’s sponsorship, we are building on the success of our 2024 series.
The Columbus SSCS/CAS Chapter is exited to announce another workshop for Tiny Tapeout!
By the end of the session, we aim to provide participants a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the open-source design flow; allowing them to successfully submit a project to an upcoming Tiny Tapeout shuttle. We believe that this provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning about Very-Large-Scale-Integration (VLSI) design in a low-stakes environment conducive to learning. Food will be provided at the event.
We encourage everyone to have a github account prior to the event (https://github.com/signup). In person attendees should bring a laptop.
Despite the recent shutdown of Efabless we are moving forward with our goal of supporting open-source tools for IC design. Due to the delayed schedule, we won’t be submitting a design for this workshop as we originally planned. Once shuttles resume, we hope to sponsor submissions again. Stay tuned for future updates!
Workshop Overview:
- Participants will learn semiconductor fabrication and process scaling history. An introduction to the digital design flow using open-source tools. Additionally, participants will gain practical VLSI design skills in a supportive environment, culminating in a submission-ready digital design.
- Workshop Date: Thursday April 3rd, 2025 from 6:00PM ET
Food is provided - Location: Rev1 Ventures – 1275 Kinnear Rd Columbus, Ohio United States 43212

Useful Information:
We encourage everyone to have a github account prior to the event (https://github.com/signup)
We have a quickstart guide for installing the open source simulation tools locally (encouraged, but not required).
Livestreams and slides from previous events are available on our website (https://r2.ieee.org/columbus-ssccas/blog/2024/01/14/tiny-tapeout-workshop-announcement/).
Efabless Shutdown Impact:
More details about the impact of Efabless shutdown on Tiny Tapeout have been discussed by Matt Venn on the Zero-to-ASIC Youtube Channel
The latest news at this point is that there will be a delay in Tiny Tapeout while the new foundry schedule with IHP and other partners is worked out, but more tapeouts are planned. However, the project is still going strong.
Keep Calm and Make ASICS!
