Section Report

School is not the only place to learn and socialize this fall. There are four unique and interesting free technical talks in the Northern VA/Washington area this month and several more being planned for later. Registration is also open for six conferences in our area, including Smart Tech Crystal City featuring tracks on big data, cyber security, IoT, 5G, and systems engineering studies of GPS and NASA radar. Northern VA members receive a 25% discount with code NVSECTION.

For more information about these and other events scroll down this email, visit our website http://sites.ieee.org/nova, or follow us on Twitter @ieeenova.

Acknowledgements and Congratulations

Thanks to expert planner and grill master Jerry Gibbon for once again organizing and cooking at the summer picnic. Thanks also to everyone who attended the picnic and who joined us at Nationals Park to watch the Nat’s shut out the O’s 4-0. Sorry Baltimore section – better luck next year.

Thank you and congratulations to incoming Computational Intelligence Society chair Joel Goodman, and to incoming Computer Society chapter chair and vice-chair Mike Pepe and Kevin Noll – our members look forward to the events you are planning. Thank you also to outgoing chairs Rhonda Farrell and Robin Thottungal, whose efforts and service over the years have been greatly appreciated.

Finally, congratulations to Electron Devices chair John Zhang on acceptance into IEEE MGA’s Volunteer Leadership Training Program (VOLT) Track 2. Members who complete the online Track 1 of this annual program may apply for this additional interactive phase.
