Software Defined Networking (SDN) at the Tactical Edge

September 20, 2016 @ 17:30 - 19:30

SDN has been a catalyst for data center re-architecting in terms of consolidation, simplification, orchestration, performance enhancements and cost savings. It is still an open research area to apply SDN principles at the Tactical Edge where links are relatively low rate, unreliable, nodes are highly mobile and there is no supporting infrastructure such as interconnected cell towers. Due to these characteristics, SDN’s basic architectural principle of separation of data and control planes may not apply at the Tactical Edge. However, there may still exist many SDN benefits for the Tactical Edge with proper design and analysis. In this talk we will discuss applicability, potential benefits and possible approaches to SDN at the Tactical Edge.
