Smart Metering Units

February 23, 2017 @ 22:30 - February 24, 2017 @ 01:15

A UTILITY PERSPECTIVE ON SMART METERING SYSTEMS

Smart metering has become a commonly used term to describe the traditional residential based electronic energy consumption meter with communication capability. Smart metering systems have been in place for a number of years but the safety, security, operation and capabilities of these systems is not well understood outside of the utility.

There is much more to smart metering today than just the billing meter located on a house or place of business. Smart grid initiatives with advanced technology allow for greater metering capability outside of the billing meter. Metering data is now being collected and utilized to enable advanced utility and customer applications. This presentation will review smart meter technology systems in use today including devices, communication and applications as well as future smart metering opportunities.
