New Power Reliability Trends and the Application of Microgrids and Battery Storage Solutions

Abstract:

In addition to natural disasters, there are several other power distribution related trends that are affecting the ability of maintaining emergency power during and after an unplanned outage, especially a prolonged outage.  This discussion will review the market trends and their impact on maintaining power resiliency. An overview of the history of the grid will be provided, and the current trends driving the need for Microgrids and battery storage applications.  Topics will include:

  • Grid Power Distribution History
  • Megatrends, MicroGrids & Customer Segment Drivers
  • MicroGrid Functions & Capabilities
  • Bidirectional Inverter / PGE & Military MicroGrid
  • Portland General Electric MicroGrid Video
  • Eaton MicroGrid Video
  • Controls & Cybersecurity: SMP Gateway (Eaton EAS Products)
  • Battery Technology Considerations & Monitoring
  • Distributed Generation Options
  • MicroGrid Feasibility Study & Implementation
