LOADED NANOFIBERS FOR FORCE PROTECTION, FILTRATION, DECONTAMINATION

March 30, 2017 @ 22:30 - March 31, 2017 @ 00:30

Co-sponsored by: NPSS

The NPS Chapter is co-sponsoring this presentation by Distinguished Speaker, Professor Ashok Vaseashta.

Prof. Vaseashta currently serves as the Vice Provost of Research and Director of Sponsored Programs and Government Relations.  He is a fellow of the American Physical Society (FAPS), Institute of Nanotechnology (FloN), and the New York Academy of Sciences (FNYAS).  He has authored over 200 research publications, edited/authored seven books on nanotechnology, presented many keynote and invited lectures worldwide, and, has served as the Director of several NATO Advanced Study Institutes.

Prof. Vaseashta will discuss a study that presents a systematic methodology to develop micro/nanofibers using electrospinning employing ceramers and other novel materials mixed in solutions of high-performance polymers.  The methodology involves identification and selection of novel combinations of high-performance polymers.  The resulting nano/microfibers demonstrate properties leading to increased mechanical strength, improved sensitivity to contaminants, better filtering capabilities, improved response to electromagnetic stimuli, and desired conductivity.
