EMC: What is it?

March 20, 2017 @ 22:30 - March 21, 2017 @ 00:30

Co-sponsored by: Mey Sen

With the advance of technology, electrical and electronic systems designs have become progressively more complex. This advancing complexity of design has led to intra-system and inter-system interactions not anticipated by the original designers. The vast majority of these interactions have resulted in system disoperation and failure.

The talk provides an overview of EMC engineering. The origins and history of the discipline is briefly reviewed. Types of EMI interactions are discussed. Methods of addressing EMC are also presented, including the most widely used standards. Some working examples and anecdotes are explored. The examples encompass conducted as well as radiated interactions.
