Deep Brain Stimulation Use in Parkinson’s

October 25, 2016 @ 22:00 - 23:30

Co-sponsored by: The Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society and the Joint Power and Energy Society and Industry Applications Society

Perhaps you have seen the commercial. It catches your eye… An elderly gentleman with significant tremors. In seconds, the doctor “turns on” the device and, almost immediately, the tremors settle and the gentleman is able to write his name.

DBS Commercial – AHN

Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is being investigated for use in many applications today. The treatment of Parkinson’s disease is one example that is of recent particular interest. Dr. Donald Whiting, who is the doctor in the commercial for AHN, and his colleagues, Dr. Nestor Tomycz and Dr. Michael Oh, will share with us their thoughts on DBS technology – selection of patients, equipment, implant process, and elements of success.

Join us for a presentation that will help you to understand this technology and provide you with a chance to ask questions of the doctors.
