VTS: Transforming the Capital Region’s Rail System, David Zaidain

May 11, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

About the Topic:

Today, Washington’s commuter rail system, MARC and VRE, are confined within the states that they operate. However, the Washington region is in need of cross state regional rail service (“run through service”) to help create seamless connectivity to jobs, housing and other important destinations. The Greater Washington Partnership is advancing the notion of run through service through its Capital Region Rail Vision. The Vision expands on the benefits and investments needed to increase cross-state regional rail service. Supporting that effort, David Zaidain with Gensler will discuss the overview of the vision and talk more specifically about the opportunity for reimaging regional, commuter rail stations and improving the passenger experience.

About the Speaker:

David Zaidain is the Urban Planning and Transportation Practice Area Leader based in Gensler’s DC office. His current work includes strategy and planning for the Baltimore Penn Station redevelopment, the New Carrollton Multi-Modal Station Joint Development and host of other projects both domestically and internationally. Prior to joining Gensler, David was a Senior Planning Manager at Amtrak, leading the Washington Union Station expansion program. Before joining Amtrak he spent 12 years at the National Capital Planning Commission in Washington DC, leading a host of projects ranging from urban design to infrastructure planning. He holds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati and a Master’s of Science in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins University.
