The IEEE PEAL chapter hosted Mr. Brett Jordan who gave an interesting presentation on “A Brief History of Electric Power Systems in Air Force Applications.” Mr. Jordan walked nearly 25 PEAL members through the “how’s” and “why’s” of 28Vdc aircraft power systems of the 1930’s, to the beginnings of 400 Hz using constant speed drives, and the development of Variable Speed Constant Frequency Cycloconverter and  fly-by-wire DC electrical power systems of the 1980’s. Mr. Jordan wrapped up the talk with where aerospace power systems could be headed in the future.  It was a very informative and intriguing technical talk.
